As part of the EBSLM Project, landslide-prone tea plantations within the project pilot study area, Kireçhane micro basin, were examined. During the field visit, interviews were conducted with Mustafa Terzi, the headman of the Kireçhane neighborhood in Rize province, and İhsan Fırat, a local resident. Possible causes of landslides and existing problems related to land use and management were assessed.
The EBSLM Project aims to implement Sustainable Land Management (SLM) techniques, which blend global approaches with local and traditional knowledge, in the Kireçhane micro basin. Following the successful implementation of these practices, the aim is to disseminate the developed methods throughout the Eastern Black Sea Region. To this end, traditional knowledge and practices within the framework of measures to reduce erosion and landslide risk, as well as methods for protecting and improving soil health currently practiced in the region were also examined and documented on-site.
